Jacko Cuts the Mustard with Teitjens

Congratulations the Mark Jackman on his selection in the NZ Sevens team for the Wellington leg of the IRB Sevens this weekend in Wellington. A deserved selection for a dedicated athletic player who gives his all everytime he pulls on a jersey no matter what team it's for. A good call from NZ Rugby's most demanding coach. Let's hope the Magpie selectors open their eyes and get Mark back in the lineup.
'Go for it Jacko'

WHAT’S . . . one gonna write about now all the rugby’s over? Well there is a cricket tour of Zimbabwe that’s just concluded with a one-off test. The one thing a I really love about cricket is it’s a statisticians paradise, hell even if it is only the Zims we’re playing.
THE . . ..Black Caps 34 run win this morning over the Zims was our first overseas test win since 2008. It was also our first test win since January 2010! If we followed the IRB’s rationale for test rankings maybe we should move up from 8th!
ONE . . .. would have to say that young Doug now has the bragging rights in the Bracewell household with a six wicket haul in his first test. Dad Brendon only picked up three in his debut, it was against the Poms in England though. One small irony is despite a difference of 33 years between the respective debuts both Bracewell’s economy rates were between 2.70 and 2.83.
A CHANGE . . .. of tack. My quote of the week come’s from Graham Henry’s press conference to announce he was stepping down from the AB’s coaching job. When talking about his 95 year old mom. “She’s gone through hell over the last eight years,” “She’s been proud, but she’s also been worried about her baby boy.”
BACK .. to the cricket. Follow the test win against Zimbabwe today Black Caps bowler Chris Martin now the dubious record of being the lowest scoring batsman to pass 200 test wickets. The veteran “allrounder” now has 202 wickets and 109 runs from 61 tests. He took the record off Indian Bargwath Chandrasekhar who in his 58 tests amassed 242 wickets and 167 runs. Coming in third is Aussie Stuart MacGill with 208 wickets and 349 runs.
TWO . . . comebacks of note have seen The Thorpedo, Ian Thorpe return to competitive swimming after a break of five years. And former Black Caps skipper Martin Crowe return to the cricket crease after an absence of God knows how many years, well he is 49! One has to wonder how long he’ll stay in Auckland Cornwall’s reserve grade team, I just hope “Hogan” Crowe’s paid his subs.
OH WELL . . .. that’s about it – Soon be the footy season again, until then bring on Summer!
Cheers McGoo
