Napier Old Boys Marist Premier 40 HAVELOCK NORTH 12
Hawkes Bay Insurance Brokers NOBM vs our nemesis Havelock North…. A soft field for the boys to play on due to the excessive rain during the week, a fun but physically challenging training at Taradale High School on Tuesday night and just as hard run at our grounds on Thursday saw our boys amped and pumping for the match. Whilst the villagers have not had the best start to their season we all know that when they face us they take their game to a different level, hence there was plenty of chat from the coaches regarding this during the week. It didn’t take us long to put points on the board with Sami Lauano dotting down two minutes in.
Outstanding work from our forward pack with the likes of Joseph Penitito, Jarvy Aoake, Willie Benson and Chris Johnston to name a few all having storming runs to take control of this game against the villagers. 4 of the 6 tries scored by us came from the hard work of the front 8. A half-time score of 21-5 with 3 tries scored led us to the full-time score of 40-12 winners.
Bloody good to get 40 points on these guys but we still have a bit of work to do to play the perfect game, keep on backing us and we will get there. Try scorers yesterday were Sami Lauano 1, Willie Benson 1, Lau Taa 1, Joseph Penitito 1, Terry Marsh 1, Liam Edwards 1. Johnny Lauano converted 5 of the 6 tries with some impressive kicking.
We take on Taradale down at the river next week, due to it being Easter the game is being played next Friday at 3pm. Once again a big thankyou to all our supporters and sponsors, we appreciate what you give us

Napier Old Boys Marist Premier Reserves 16 AOTEA 19
Saturday saw the first of the bus trips for the Richard Kepka NOBM Premier Development team. Rugby Park in Dannyvegas was the venue and the boys were greeted with perfect rugby conditions.
From the kick off the boys knew they were in a physical battle with Aotea using their size to put some big hits on. However the boys grabbed the momentum and dominated field position in the early exchanges, and an early penalty was awarded with the reliable boot of Adam Chapman slotting the 3 points. A further penalty a piece was all the scoring in the first half as both teams traded blows and had sustained periods on attack.
In the second spell it was Aotea who dominated the running with an early penalty goal quickly followed by a try after a series of missed tackles in the mid field. Down 13-6 with 25 to go, the coaches went to the bench and the boys spirits lifted and some good handling saw multiple phases turned into a neat try for Niue Viamoli. Adam’s conversion locked the scores up at 13 apiece with 15 remaining. Opportunities presented for the boys during the last 15min however strong attacks at the line were thwarted and with the clock on fulltime Aotea, were awarded a penalty 40 metres out. From directly in front, Aotea’s kicker raised the flags and that was all she wrote with a 19 -16 victory to the hosts.
Misha Marsters was the best NOBM player on the paddock, with his lineout throwing on point and his go forward with the ball key to the boys attack while Dylan Kiwara was strong at the back and combined well with his wingers. Aotea 19, Richard Kepka NOBM Premier Development 16 - Niue Viamoli try, Adam Chapman 3 Penalties, conversion.
Short turnaround this week with Rugby on Easter Friday and a home game against another country powerhouse Otane.

Napier Old Boys Marist Thirds - TECH
Technically - we lost be default due to insufficient players arriving in time although OBM won the game that was played.
Game time arrived at Whitmore Park and we had an impressive lineup of experienced players. Although in years we totalled 600 years, in number we only totalled 11. So I think Tech think they won the game due to article 53 subclause 6a. Anyway 5 minutes later we kicked off and had 15 on the field.
Tech scored 2 or 3 quick tries before we woke up. But we kept at it and managed to get a few things going, like our younger quicker trickier players. Thanks to everyone who contributed. All jerseys & shorts accounted for after the game. Thanks to the OBM Golden Oldies team for keeping the team going.
Final score 24-17 (winners on the scoreboard again)

Napier Old Boys Marist Colts 31 ESKVIEW 14 > Friendly
Yesterday the Colts played Eskview in our second pre-season game of the year. The game was out at Petane Domain, Eskview. The grounds were in very good condition considering the massive amount of rain during the week.
We had a large squad of players with the Press releasing a couple to play for us and a few lads from NBHS helping out. We made the best possible start with an early try after constant possession. This was followed up with a second try shortly after. Our players kept good structure even when we made multiple changes.
The second half started the same as the first with an early try. However we didn't maintain our structure in this half and gave Eskview opportunities they didn't really deserve.
Eskview managed to score a try midway through the half and then again in the final play.
The final score was 31-14 to NOBM. All in all It was a good hit out and showed us where we have to work and it would be good to see these good numbers at training as we certainly need it before our Colts competition begins in earnest.

DID YOU KNOW
THAT OBM club members extend our best wishes for a successful tour to our 12 Grade Juniors team that is travelling to the South Island over Easter. With games vs Ashburton Celtic, ChCh Marist Albion and the Christchurch Club. Also to our 11th Grade side that will be hosting their counterparts from Ashburton Celtic over the same weekend. They have also arranged games for these southern visitors against Hastings R&S juniors and also Pirates over their stay in Napier.
THAT due to the above problems this column is restricted at the present so please bear with us.
THAT here’s an important message to our non-playing members – step up and pay your annual Subs at the club bar when you’re at the clubrooms.
THAT we could have a few hiccups with our Xtra emails over the past couple of weeks due to the recent Spark changeover brought about by their separation from Yahoo. Time will tell so at the moment its fingers crossed that these problems which include sending out in excess of 1200 email each issue in different groups can be sorted out promptly.
This weeks edition will be posted as usual on the clubs website - www.napierobmaristrugby.co.nz - add this to your favouries for future reference. Ed

Paddy goes for a job at a chemical factory, the factory manager asks "Have you worked with chemicals before?" "Yes!" Paddy replies.
The manager asks "Can you tell me what nitrate is?"
Paddy replies "I’m hoping it’s going to be time and a half.”
Paddy walks into a bar and asks for ten shots of the establishments finest single malt scotch.
The bartender sets him up, and Paddy takes the first shot in the row and pours it on the floor.
He then takes the last one in the and does the same.
The bartender asks him, "Why did you do that?"
And Paddy replies, " Well the first shot always tastes like crap, and the last one always makes me sick!"
An Irishman went to London and found himself in the Underground late one night.
Seeing a notice "DOGS MUST BE CARRIED ON THE ESCALATOR", he moaned to himself, "And where am I going to find a dog at this hour of the night?"
We also look forward to seeing all rugby players, footballers, netballers, cricketers and softballers and friends at the clubrooms each Saturday - Pop in for cool Tui or two - Also bring along your mates for an Ale and a chat.
